An independent, nonpartisan project
Did an AI give you wrong election information?
AI chatbots and search tools answer election questions every day. Sometimes they get it wrong, not because anyone meant to mislead, but because of how these tools work. Tell us what happened. Your report helps build a shared record of what AI actually tells voters.
Report a wrong answerWhat a report looks like
That was last election's date. The state's official site says something different.
Need the right answer now? Check vote.gov or your local elections office. This site collects reports. It is not an official election resource.
Thank you. Your report is in.
Your reference number is .
We review every report, remove personal details, and look for patterns across AI tools, states and kinds of mistakes. What we find goes to the public, reporters, researchers and the people who set rules for these tools.
About this project
Why it exists
Most worry about AI and elections is about bad actors: deepfakes, fake robocalls, influence campaigns. This project looks at something quieter. Ordinary AI tools, used the ordinary way, sometimes get election facts wrong. Outdated training data, a bad source or a made-up detail is enough.
Test labs can show what a model might do. Only real reports show what it actually told real voters. That is what we collect.
Who runs it
AI Election Errors is run by Hoplight, an AI strategy firm. Hoplight covers the cost. No party, candidate, campaign or AI company funds it or has a say in it. We treat every AI tool the same way.
If you build one of these tools
You can respond to any report or finding, or flag a mistake in our work: whit@hoplight.ai.
How we weigh reports
We don't fact-check each report before storing it. Anything we publish is reviewed first, and stronger evidence counts for more:
- AA share link to the conversation that anyone can check
- BA screenshot, and we can follow up with you
- CA screenshot, reported anonymously
- DPasted text only
What we keep
Anonymous: what you type and upload, and the state your connection came from. We don't link your reports together.
With contact info: the same, plus your city and browser type, and your contact details, stored separately and seen only by our review team. We never publish, sell or share them, and we ask before connecting you with anyone.
Our records never include your internet address. Photos lose their hidden location and camera data before they leave your device.
